An attempt was made to define the grid system for T-26 as employed by M. Tobey. Work was cut short due to bad weather.
P.M.
After careful inspection of plans of T-26, the line between grids L and M was established on paper and at the site. From this line, similar lines were determined by triangulation to define grids Q, R, S, T, and U in the vicinity of 55-59, north of T-25. Numerical coordinates will be firmly established tomorrow.
Extensive washout from the baulk at 59/Q-U was lifted and sorted. Little was found in the washout. A few badly worn fragments of redware pottery were discovered. Tile and plaster fragments were more common, but not abundant. Of particular interest was a fragment of the base from a fine redware cup discovered in the washuot from roughly Q/59. One bone fragment was found.
Topsoil cuts were made, working east to west, in U/58 and Q/58. 20 cm (roughly) of dark brown topsoil was removed. Time limitations prevented the cuts in these grids from being completed. Both washout and topsoil from this area contained high concentrations of large stones (roughly 10 x 10 x 10 cm). A few badly worn fragments of tile and plaster were found in the topsoil. No pottery was found.
