Work was begun this morning cleaning all of T-26 and T-25 of debris accumulated during the winter. Brush and rocks were removed. Archaeological material (primarily tile, plaster, and a very few examples of worn ceramics) were retrieved from areas washed out from the baulk as well as those found on the trench floor. There continued to be no real discernible evidence of damage by individuals. To the south in meters JB/65 - 68 the protective soil covering the floor had eroded away leaving the already poorly preserved floor (here) visible and subject to further damage from the elements. Some erosion had already taken place. A stump in PQ/71 - 73 (from the large tree blown down in 1985: See Abbey Collins Book IV pp. 153 - 155) was begun to be cleaned down. The soil among the roots included plaster, some tile, small bits of burning. A small bag of bronze bits was collected as well as ivory fragments and a few ceramic fragments (including neck and shoulder fragments of an Italo-Corinthian ball aryballos and a of a fenistrated vessel).
