Trench Layout:

CB-40, a 4m by 4m trench, will be lid out directly east of three other additional trenches (CB-35, CB-38, CB-39), which together with CB-40 are situated approximately 25m from a fifth trench on Civitate B (CB-41). It will be triangulated from the northern wall of CB-39 (108s), which was triangulated from CB-35, which was originally triangulated from one known baseline at 50W on the master grid determined through the use of a transit. The coordinates of CB-40 are

SW: 108S/42W

NW: 104S/42W

NE: 104S/38W

SE:108S/38W

A datum point with an absolute elevation of 31.4mAE will be established on a tree directly to the west of the trench.

After clearing the surface of CB-40 it is clear that the surface is very flat and relatively level; a slight slope accounted for by the slope of the hill, with the western/southern portion visibly slightly higher. The visible rocks and stumps are relatively small with the exception of a collection of stumps near the SW corner, a massive stump just outside the SE corner, and two medium to large stumps in the northern wall.
