Baulk trim total: 168 sherds
High quantities of pottery were recovered from CA 83 in the 2013 excavation season. Practically all the pottery found this year came from contextualized loci, which lie below topsoil, and in each locus, the vast majority of pottery found was impasto; relatively little bucchero and fine impasto was found and no obviously imported ceramics were recovered.
Loci 1 and 5, which are both topsoil, yielded relatively little pottery (31 and 22 sherds, respectively), and the pottery that was recovered from both loci was abraided and eroded. No cataloged ceramic finds were recovered from this locus.
In
Loci 2
and
6
, which are soil packages lying directly below topsoil, high quantities of pottery were found, with 433 and 717 sherds of pottery having been uncovered from each locus, respectively. In both loci, the vast majority of pottery recovered was impasto (69.51% and 70.21%, respectively), but high quantities of coarseware were found as well (17.09% and 19.72%, respectively). In both loci, very little fine impasto or bucchero was found. Notably, a molded ceramic head that may be a finial attachment or part of a ceramic figurine was recovered from Locus 2 (

Loci 3 and 8 are equivalent, as both are located to the north of a curvilinear rock feature that runs east-west across the trench; Locus 3 in the original portion of the trench was closed and Locus 8 opened across the entire trench so that these materials could be kept together. In both these loci, relatively high quantities of pottery were found (125 sherds and 699 sherds, respectively), and both loci yielded relatively high quantities of fineware; in Locus 3 , 40 sherds of fineware and 4 sherds of bucchero were found, or 35.20% of all pottery recovered from this locus, while in Locus 8 , 83 sherds of fineware and 8 sherds of buchero were recovered, or 13.02% of all pottery recovered from the locus. In both loci, the amount of coarseware found was relatively low (14 sherds or 11.20% and 121 sherds or 17.31%, respectively), while high quantities of impasto were found.
By far the most pottery was recovered from Loci 4 and 9, two equivalent loci located to the south of the curvilinear rock that extends across the trench. In both loci, large amounts of pottery but relatively little tile was found and in both loci, the most prevalent pottery type was impasto, although the percentages recovered from both loci are lower than those for all other loci; in Locus 4 , 195 sherds or 56.69% of all pottery recovered from the locus was impasto, while in Locus 9 , 792 sherds or 66.11% of all pottery recovered from the locus was impasto. In both loci, high quantities of coarseware were found (42 sherds or 12.21% and 223 sherds or 18.61%, respectively) and in Locus 9 , 5 crucible fragments were recovered (cataloged fragments include 20130206 20130206 and 20130256 20130256 ).
