Rectangle 7:

Work was begun by removing weeds and stones from the area to be excavated.  Then excavation commenced as dirt which had washed down from the wall was removed.  A few small pieces of fine bucchero and many pieces of carbon were found.

Work continued as loose soil and fill were cleared away from the doorway.  Heavy carbon deposits could be seen close to the doorway.

After the fallen earth, etc., had been removed from the doorway, excavation started in section B and a layer c. 20 cm in thickness was removed.  A number of pithos fragments and heavy carbon deposits were encountered.

Among the pithos fragments was the base part of a large vase with fat body and a small narrow foot.

Also among this deposit were quite a few pieces of bucchero.  Two pieces had one straight incised line on the surface.  A few sherds of other types of pottery were also in evidence.

1 box of tiles and pithoi dumped.
