Conclusion

The excavation of CB51 during the 2011 season can be seen as partially successful. In regards to the investigation around the area of CB38 and CB39, CB51 did not uncover any similar deposit or organic soil. Like its neighboring trench of CB48 to the south, after a relatively shallow layer of top soil, deteriorating rock was found rather quickly. Though not necessarily soil undisturbed by human activity, the deteriorating rock soil did not have any artifacts in it.

No evidence of architectural features was found that could explain the materials found in trenches CB38 and CB39.

There is still need for more excavation in the Civitate B area in order to learn more about the stratigraphy, topography, possible architectural

remains, and depositional lenses.
