Pottery Summary Diagnostic sherds
A total of 1229 fragments of pottery was recovered in T-18 for the 2001 serason. The majority of the pottery came from loci 2, 6, 7, and 9. These loci are all found near and to the south of the rock feature that bisects the trench dividing locus 1 from locus 2. Impasto was the most predominant fabric found but a high percentage of finer ceramics
such as bucchero and buccheroid were also recovered. Loci 4 and 5 were almost devoid of material. Locus 4 represents the bedrock that rests below locus 1, and locus 5 was a topsoil cut made to the south of locus 2. Because excavation was only carried out for about 2 weeks this season in T-18, it would be premature to make many conclusions but it does appear as though the rock feature influenced the distribution of ceramics throughout the trench, since most of the ceramics were recovered from the south side of the feature. Several finds were tracked from T-18 including a fragment of braided coarseware (KLHIV, pg 23), and an impoast rim fragment (KLHIV, pg 25) from locus 1. Locus 2 produced a piece of ridge impasto (KLHIV, pg 15), incised impasto (KLHIV, pg 15), incised buccheroid (KLHIV, pg 21), a fragment of painted corinthian (KLHIV, pg 25), and another fragment of incised buccheroid (KLHIV, pg 25). Locus 6 produced a buccheroid tondo (KLHIV, pg 39), a bowl fragment with a rim (KLHIV, pg 39), a rim fragment with a groove (KLHIV, pg 45), and a fragment of incised bucchero (KLHIV, pg 51). Locus 7 produced one rochetto fragment (KLHIV, pg 51), three fragments of ridged pottery (KLHIV, pg 59, 61), a greyware ring base (KLHIV, pg 59), four fragments of incised pottery (KLHIV, pg 59, 63), a cooking bell fragment (KLHIV, pg 61), and a corinthian fragment (KLHIV, pg 61).
