The trench was extended east into meters M-N/14-15, where a topsoil cut was taken to a depth of 10cm. The soil was dark brown in color and contained many small rocks and roots. One quarter of a cassetta of small pieces of worn tile and a few pieces of worn impasto were discovered in the cut.

A 10cm. cut was taken in meters G/14-15, extending the depth of the trench in these meters to ca. 108cm from the datum point in H/11. The soil in these meters consisted entirely of galestra and contained no material.

meters H-I/14, extending the depth of the trench in these meters to ca. 100 cm. The soil in the western half of meter H/14 consisted of galestra and contained no material. The soil in the eastern half of meter H/14 and in meter I/14 was medium to dark brown in color. This medium to dark brown soil contained a light concentration of carbon and some burnt material including slag and small pieces of vitrified tile. One quarter of a box of mixed pottery, including several burned pieces, and a few pieces of unburned worn tile were removed from the cut.

A large stump located between meters G-H/14 was also cleaned and removed. The soil both below and around the stump consisted of galestra and contained no

material.

It was decided to temporarily cease excavation of the \x91pit' in meters H-I/12-13 until it can be drawn by the architect. It should also be noted that closer analysis of both the contours and stratigraphy of the area of the pit has raised the possibility that, despite teh absence of intense signs of burning, the pit structure may have functioned as an oven or kiln. Further clearing of the area, however, will be necessary to further investigate this possibility.
