J-K/80-81, untouched since 7/8/89, were taken down to 60 cm below the northern baulk at J/82. Soil remained hard, crumbly, and light brown in this cut, but became a richer brown toward grid J/82. In the north-east corner of K/81 a large coarseware pot base exists deep into the trench floor we will wait to go down another cut before we remove it. Tile and pottery exist in this cut, but not a frequently as they did in K-M/82-85. Most pottery comes out the J/81-82 area.
A second cut was begun in K/80-81. Soil at this depth appears more reddish than the siol above. A bronze object similar to one found by J.Berkin in T-27 this season came out of K/80. ( See J. Berkin, p. 73 ). K/80's soil is slightly more red than that in K/81. The soil here appears more grey brown.
