Work continued clearing the tile and rock fall in N-Q/87-89.  A heavy burn layer was encountered in Q 89-90 just NE of the column base.  This area was very black with burnt wood, carbon and burned pottery.  Very close by heavily vitrified tile was found.  The burned area seemed very limited and was apparently over an area of very disintegrated floor.  Good floor bordered it in the excavated area to the south and west.  Large pieces of tile and plaster were found in NOP/86-89 including 2 large pieces of sima, one with a head attachment scar (12).  There were red and black burn flecks found throughout the area.  Much of the material removed was not burned, including both tile and pottery.  Pottery included small amounts of all types.  1 cassetta of plaster was removed.  Flat-edged pieces were reserved separately.  those with more than 1 flat edge were recorded as finds and taken to teh magazzino.  Tile was again reserved to look for sima and other joins.  Large areas of good floor were present throughout most of the area, apparently extending under the tile, rock, plaster fall.  Except for the burned area mentioned above there seemed to be little heavy burning or other damage.  The gap (see p 107, 113) continues south and was filled with small stones and plaster.  The tree in NO/85-86 was cleaned down to permit removal later.  Tile, small bits of pottery, bone and plaster were found.

The area to the northeast and east was cleared of brush to the dump area.  work continued clearing the rock and tile fall to floor level.  A burn area was found moving into the baulk at P/88-89.  This layer ran just above a scorched floor area.  Very little material came from this area but tile, plaster, etc. were found above.  A second burn area was found at QR/86-87, again just above the floor.  Almost no material except the odd piece of burned pottery was found.  A small bit of bronze sheet was also found here.  In the tile fall, vitrified, burned adn unburned tile was all found together.  Unburned and vitrified (small amount) plaster was found here together with minimal pottery.  Several large fragments of pithos were found, including a large rim fragment left in the PQ/89 baulk.  The gap continued and seemed to spread a bit moving south as the floor rises.  The tree fall was cleared and cut.  Brush from the area cleaned off was placed over the un-fired cover tiles (already covered with plastic) for added protection over the break.
